20 In-Flight Essentials

In-Flight Essentials

So we know that most of this doesn't qualify as an 'essential' but "20 things that I like to take with me to make a long flight more comfortable" doesn't exactly roll off of the tongue. So rather than debating our title, let's get on with our carry on!

Here are our top 20 items the Tipsy Unicorns don't get on flights without:

1. The Perfect Carry On

Congratulation! You have officially stumbled across the most perfect carry on. The Kensie "Underseater" is a roller that, you guessed it, fits under your seat. It's big enough to fit all of your essentials but this dainty little piece also fits over the handle of a standard size roller. Trust me... I could go on and on. But we have 19 other favorites to get through. So I won't.

2. Eye Mask

Get some. All flight long. All flight. All flight long. Sleep... I meant sleep. Get your mind out of the gutter ya filthy animal. These filthy animals love this mask with it's curved foam which gives you a nice face hugging fit with the added benefit of unsquished eyelashes.

3. Noise Cancelling Headphones

Whether watching a movie or catching some ZZZ's drowning out your fellow plane-mates can be crucial to a restful flight. These are a nice pair at a midrange price point with Bluetooth and wired functionality and you can control the volume and tracks by swiping the right headphone which absolutely looks as cool as it sounds.

4. Water Bottle

Maybe the only real 'essential' on the list. But bringing your own water bottle is a good idea. A nice double wall stainless steel bottle will keep your water nice and cold through the whole flight.

5. Travelers Notebook

Sometimes you just gotta write. On paper. With a pen. Keep all your notes and reservation numbers in one place even if your phone dies or you *gasp* DoN't HaVe WIFI.

6. Light Sweater

Airplanes are cold. Or hot. If you bring a sweater or light jacket so you can cozy up if you need to.

7. Fanny Pack

This fanny pack was the best thing about 2017. This might be an exaggeration, but then again, maybe not. It's nice an slim fitting so it can fit over your clothes or under your jacket to keep all your travel docs safe.

8. Lotion

By lotion, I mean wax. And by wax, I mean beeswax. Beeswax is an awesome moisturizer - it absorbs easily and lasts through multiple hand washings. It's also great as a chap stick and as a sunburn treatment in a pinch!

9. Lip Oil

All the shine of a lip gloss, all the nourishment of a well... oil. We love a product that does double duty! Toss it in your fanny pack to keep it close by throughout the flight.

10. Wallet

A small RFID Wallet keeps your information safe and keeps your cards at your fingertips.

11. Passport Holder

A RFID protection + plenty of storage all wrapped in a Rose Gold foil package = Beauty & Brains.

12. Kleenex

A runny nose with no tissues makes for a tough 1 hour flight much less a 10 hr flight. Don't risk it and throw a pack in your fanny pack to have them on hand whenever you need 'em.

13. Toothbrush

Hopefully you can grab a few hours of beauty sleep during the flight. Make sure you've got a toothbrush and toothpaste to freshen up when you wake up!

14. Face Mask

Plane air for hours on end leaves your skin looking dull, dull, dull. Get radiant by throwing on a face mask about an hour prior to landing. Look for moisturizing or revitalizing options - We love 'What Happened Last Night' for a budget friendly option. *BONUS* It's a great opportunity to convince your seatmates they're in a new SAW movie.

15. Face Wipes

Help keep your pores clear with some in flight face wipes. If you have naturally dry and sensitive skin these Josie Moran wipes with argon oil do the trick without over drying.

16. Laptop/Tablet... Or Both

Whether working or not having a laptop or tablet on hand is a necessity for a long flight. Converting from a laptop to a tablet the Microsoft Surface Book is flexible enough to cover any function I need.

17. Headphone Splitter

Such a simple little device. Sharing your music and movies with your travel buddies can make a long flight fly by.

18. Camera

I love to document my trips from start to finish. That said I typically stow my camera gear in the overhead bins. But the Sony Rx0 packs substantial punch into a tiny, waterproof frame. I like to pack it in my carry on to capture the in flight excitement we'd otherwise miss.

19. Power Bank

These days, most airlines offer in seat power, but I still find a power pack come in handy. I like this one with 25,000 mAh which is at least a few days worth of power to charge your phone and tablet.

20. Charger Organizer

With so many devices each with their own chargers and cables it's easy enough to lose track of them or end up with a jumbled mess of cables. Put them all in a cable organizer so they're easy to find when you need them.

That's it! You've made it through the list - so pack your bags and get ready for your next adventure!
